Information for Learners

What to expect as a learner

All our sessions are free and open to anyone who comes along wanting help using computers, tablets or smartphones and accessing online services. Help is normally offered on a one-to-one basis: we will try to pair you as soon as possible with an appropriate volunteer. Bear in mind that as and when they finish with you, they will be free to move on to help somebody else. So please don't hang on to them if you can see someone else waiting.

Our primary objective is to facilitate the learning of new technical skills and to build confidence in using digital devices. Volunteers try, where possible, to help learners learn how to do things themselves, rather than just completing tasks or fixing issues for them.  Some problems need PASSWORD access. Please be sure to bring ALL your passwords with you, written on paper.

We normally have only a small number of volunteers and, although they can all handle most of the problems we get, they may need to Google your problem/requirement, or check with a colleague. Some volunteers do specialise on topics (e.g. Windows/Mac, Android/iOS or Instagram) so we sometimes need to swap people around dynamically.

If you have a problem that is a bit specialised or you suspect might need some research, it could be useful to inform us in advance email/message to fivebells.computerclub@gmail.com or via the WhatsApp group.

We are obliged to keep an attendance list, so if it is your first time, or you have not been for a longtime, we normally take name, email address and phone number. Known people are usually marked in without asking them.

We are always looking at ways of improving and expanding our sessions and the services/support we offer, so please do share any comments, feedback or suggestions you have. You can do this by chatting with club co-ordinators at a session, or by direct email/message to fivebells.computerclub@gmail.com or via the WhatsApp group.

“I’m so pleased I found your group”
